Latest News From ChatelSummer in the Alps has now well and truly arrived with blue skies and temperatures of 25 - 30 degrees. We have just had a really busy weekend with 3500 mountain bikers arriving to complete the 80km Passportes du Soleil event. Mountain Biking holidays in Chatel are now very popular, you can read more on the summer pages of the web site. The flowers are out both in the village and on the mountain which is providing superb scenery for the walkers and hikers and following the superb winter season there are still some large patches of snow on the mountain - should make the mountain biking interesting!

Walking & Hiking - Guided or self guided walks around the Portes du Soleil are a must for any keen walker. From a tour of the Portes du Soleil to lake walks with your family or hiking up nearby peaks, the Portes du Soleil has more than 800km of signposted paths to explore. A task made even easier thanks to the 24 lifts in operation during the summer.

Mountain Biking - A mountain biker's paradise - 12 downhill runs, 5 "shore" areas, 1 slopestyle, a kids zone and foam pit. And that's just in Chatel; add the rest of what the PDS offers Mountain Bikers and there is no place better.
Mountain Style Contest in Chatel, 4th - 6th July, Freeride & Slopestyle competition.
Passportes du Soleil VTT event, 28th and 29th June. 3000 riders will take part in the 70+km course.

Sightseeing - There are some beautiful places to visit around this area of France and Switzerland. As well as many pretty local villages, the nearby Lake side towns of Annecy, Montreux, and Evian are well worth a visit.
Water Sports - White Water Rafting, Hydrospeed, Canyoning, Swimming, Fishing and boats trips around Lake Geneva; if you like the water there are plenty of options to choose from.
Montreux Jazz Festival - This year the Jazz festival runs from the 4th - 19th July. Come and stay in Chatel and enjoy this fantastic event. This year, artists include Al Jarreau, Alicia Keys, Eddie Grant, Herbie Hancock, Joe Jackson, Lenny Kravitz, Paul Simon, Quincy Jones, Sheryl Crow, Travis and many others. Bastille Day - This annual French celebration is on the 14th July. Every village and town in France hosts magnificent fireworks displays and events to celebrate this historic day. Chatel has one of the best displays you will see, around the banks of Lac Vonnes.
Evian Masters Golf - The Evian Masters is a great tournament on the LPGA tour, it runs from the 24th - 27th July at the nearby Evian Golf Club. Michelle Wie and Annika Sorenstam will again be competing in this famous event. If you fancy playing this Championship course the green fees at Evian are very reasonabale. There is an outstanding selection of great courses around this area of France and Switzerland all within easy reach of Chatel.
